Overview

Warts are small, hardened, rough pieces of skin that grow faster than normal. They are caused by various strains of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). Warts are contagious and can spread person to person by physical contact. It can take as long as two to six month to develop after your skin has been exposed to the virus, which can affect the skin on any part of the body. Warts occur more frequently in children and young adults because their defense mechanisms may not be fully developed.
