Overview

Seborrheic keratoses are common noncancerous black or brown growths usually found on the chest, back, and head. The growths look waxy, scaly and have a wart-like appearance. People tend to get more of them as they get older.

Symptoms

Some of the more common symptoms of seborrheic keratoses include:

• Waxy, wart-like appearance
• Ranges in color from light tan to brown or black
• Round or oval shaped
• Flat or slightly raised with a scaly surface
• May itch
• Ranges in size from very small to more than 1 inch in diameter

Seborrheic Keratoses Treatment

Although harmless, some patients may decide to have them removed if they become irritated by clothing or they don’t like how they look. Methods for removing them include:

• Cutting/scraping them off
• Cryosurgery
• Electrosurgery
